Does this service actually pay?
Time, products and overheads, turned into the lowest price that keeps your business healthy.
Time
- Service time (Minutes the client is in the chair)
- Preparation and cleaning (Before and after, not visible to the client)
Direct costs
- Products used (Per service, excluding recoverable VAT)
- Target pay per hour (For the professional doing it)
The business
- Monthly overheads (Rent, energy, software, insurance…)
- Billable hours per month (Across the whole team)
- Payment costs (Card and booking fees, on the price paid)
- Target operating margin (What you keep after everything)
How the price is built
- All the time you commit: Your target pay and the overheads are spread over the full time, preparation included, not only the minutes the client sees.
- Plus what it consumes: Products used are added at cost. Payment fees are calculated on the price the client pays, VAT included.
- Then the margin you protect: The operating margin comes on top, so the price leaves room for a quiet month, an investment or a raise.

Questions about this calculator
Should preparation time be billed?
Yes. Setting up, cleaning and the time between clients cannot be sold to anyone else, so the service has to pay for it.
What counts as overheads?
Rent, energy, insurance, software, accountant, marketing and the pay of anyone not doing services. Everything the business pays monthly, excluding recoverable VAT.
Are retail product sales included?
No. This calculator prices the service on its own. Retail is a bonus on top, not a way to hide an under-priced service.
