Add a walk-in

In GU Bookings, tap Walk-in in Quick actions, or leave the client empty in the booking form. Pick the service and the time, then tap Confirm booking.

Start a walk-in

A walk-in is a booking with no client profile: no name and no phone number. Use it when someone comes in without a booking. GU Bookings gives you three ways to start one. Any team member can add a walk-in. No PIN is asked.

  • Open Quick actions. Pull down the short bar at the top middle of the screen, or tap it. Quick actions opens over the page. Tap Walk-in.
  • Use Search. Tap the magnifying glass at the top right of the screen. Under Quick actions, tap Walk-in.
  • Leave the client empty. Open the booking form as usual, for example with Add at the top of the calendar. The client column on the left reads Add client. Leave it empty. You can also tap it, then tap Walk-in at the top of the list.

Book the walk-in

The booking form opens on the side of the screen. Nothing is saved until you tap Confirm booking or Checkout.

  • Pick the service. The service list opens on its own, under Select a service. Tap the service the client wants. If it has options, choose them and tap Add. To add another service, tap Add service.
  • Pick the time. Tap Continue at the bottom, or Pick a date at the top: the form shows one of the two. Select a time opens on today, and times that have passed are hidden. Tap a free time, then tap Continue. If you choose no team member, the app picks one who does the service and is free at that time.
  • Confirm the booking. Check the services and the time, then tap Confirm booking. To take payment now, tap Checkout instead: it saves the booking and opens the checkout.
  • Booking confirmed. This screen shows the service, the time and the team member. Tap Done. On the calendar, the booking reads Walk-in where a client name would be.

Add the client's details later

If the client wants to come back, put their client profile on the booking. The visit then shows in their history.

  • Open the booking. Tap the walk-in booking on the calendar. The client column on the left reads Walk-in.
  • Tap Walk-in. Tap the Walk-in card in the client column. Select a client opens, with a search field and your client list.
  • Pick or create the client. Type a name, a phone number or an email, then tap the client. If the app says No client matches your search, tap the button below it, for example Create "Marie". Fill in the client form. Back on the booking, tap the new client in the list.
  • Save the change. Tap Update at the bottom of the booking. On the Save changes? screen, tap Update booking. Booking updated confirms it.
  • Do it before you take payment. Paying at the checkout closes the booking. A closed booking stays a walk-in, and you can no longer add a client to it.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the client's name or phone number for a walk-in?

No. A walk-in is saved with no client profile. Leave the client empty or tap Walk-in, then pick the service and the time. You can add the client later, before you take payment.

Why can't I book a walk-in for right now?

A booking cannot start in the past. For today, times that have passed are hidden, and the first time you can pick is the next quarter hour. Pick it: you can start a booking up to 30 minutes early without being asked to confirm. If that time passes before you tap Confirm booking, the app says: This time has already passed. Pick a later time. Pick the next time and confirm again.

Does a walk-in get a confirmation message?

No. A walk-in has no email or phone number, so no message is sent. Adding the client to the booking later sends no message either, even if you tick Notify the client of this change.

Why can't I add the client to a walk-in booking?

The booking is closed. Once a booking is Completed, Cancelled or No-show, its client can no longer change. The client column then reads Client is locked on a closed booking. Paying at the checkout closes the booking, so add the client before you take payment.
