Pair the Stripe Reader S700

Type the code shown on the reader into GU Manager (Devices, then Pair terminal) or GU Bookings (More, then Hardware, then Add). Tap Pair to link the reader to your establishment.

Where to pair a reader

You can pair a Stripe Reader S700 from GU Manager or from GU Bookings. Both open the same Pair your terminal screen. Is the reader new? Charge it and connect it to Wi-Fi before you pair it.

  • In GU Manager. Open Devices in the menu. On the Glow Up Terminal card, tap Pair terminal. The button shows only while no reader is paired.
  • In GU Bookings. Tap More at the bottom of the screen, then Hardware. Tap Add, under the Hardware title.
  • Who can pair a reader. An owner, admin or manager. In GU Bookings, that is the person signed in on the tablet. With any other role, the pairing is refused.

Pair the reader

Keep the reader switched on and connected to Wi-Fi. Nothing is linked until you tap Pair.

  • Show the code on the reader. A new reader shows a pairing code on its screen. No code? Swipe right from the left edge of the reader screen and tap Settings. Enter the admin passcode, then tap Generate pairing code.
  • Type the code. On the Pair your terminal screen, type the code in Registration code, exactly as the reader shows it. The Reader label below is filled in for you.
  • Tap Pair. Tap Pair at the bottom of the screen. The button reads Pairing... for a moment. Terminal paired then appears with a green tick: tap Done.
  • Changed your mind? Before you tap Pair, tap the back arrow at the top left to leave. No reader is linked.
  • Where you see the reader next. In GU Manager, it is listed under Linked devices on the Devices page. In GU Bookings, it is listed under Readers, in More, then Hardware. Both show its status: Online or Offline.

Add, remove or pair a reader again

You manage your readers in GU Bookings, under More, then Hardware. GU Manager pairs the first reader only.

  • Add a second reader. In GU Bookings, tap More, then Hardware, then Add. Pair the new reader with its own code, as in the steps above.
  • Which reader takes the payment. With two readers or more, Reader for this tablet shows below the Readers list. Tap it and pick the reader this tablet uses. Automatic, the default, uses the first reader that is online. A picked reader is used even when it is offline. Each tablet keeps its own choice, and no PIN is asked.
  • Remove a reader. In GU Bookings, tap More, then Hardware. Tap the three dots next to the reader, then Remove reader. Confirm with Remove reader. The reader is unlinked from this establishment.
  • Pair a reader again. To link a removed reader again, make a new code on it: Settings, then Generate pairing code. Then pair it as in the steps above. To move a reader to another establishment, remove it first, then pair it from the new one.
  • How readers are named. Glow Up names each reader for you: your establishment name, then a number from the second reader on. In GU Bookings, the serial number shows under each name. The same number is printed on the back of the reader.

If something goes wrong

A pairing error appears in red under Registration code. Nothing was linked, so you can try again. The other problems below show in GU Bookings or on the reader.

  • This code was not accepted. Check the code against the reader screen and type it again. Still refused? Make a new code on the reader: Settings, then Generate pairing code. If the message says only an owner, admin or manager can pair a reader, ask one of them to pair it.
  • Stripe has not activated your payments yet. Pairing waits until Stripe activates your payments. Until then, the Glow Up Terminal card in GU Manager says Waiting for Stripe, and Pair terminal stays grey. To check, open Store settings in GU Manager, then Bank account & payouts. The message No Stripe account is connected yet means Stripe is not connected at all: connect it on the same page.
  • The reader shows Offline. Press the reader's power button to wake it, and check that it is connected to Wi-Fi. Then, in GU Bookings, tap the three dots next to the reader and tap Reconnect. This reads its status again.
  • Still offline after that. On the reader, open Settings, then Diagnostics. Stripe says the Stripe connectivity test must show Passed. If it fails, the reader cannot reach Stripe through your internet connection. Check your router, or try another Wi-Fi network.
  • GU Bookings does not list the reader. GU Bookings reads the list of readers when it starts. If you paired from GU Manager, close GU Bookings and open it again. A reader belongs to one establishment: check that the tablet works in the same one.
  • Reader not removed. GU Bookings shows why the removal failed, and the reader stays in the list. Only an owner, admin or manager can remove a reader. Ask one of them to remove it in GU Bookings.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pair the reader by Bluetooth?

No. The Stripe Reader S700 never pairs by Bluetooth. It connects to the internet over Wi-Fi, and GU Bookings sends each payment to it over the internet.

Why is there no Pair terminal button in GU Manager?

GU Manager shows Pair terminal only while no reader is paired to the establishment. To add another reader, use Add in GU Bookings, here:

Can two tablets use the same reader?

Yes. Every GU Bookings tablet in the establishment lists the same readers. Each one uses the reader set under Reader for this tablet, or the first reader online with Automatic. A reader takes one payment at a time. If two tablets send a payment to the same reader, one of them shows Terminal busy. Wait until the other payment is done, then tap Retry. Check the amount on the reader before the client pays.

Does removing a reader delete my sales?

No. Removing a reader only unlinks it from the establishment. Your sales and payments stay in GU Bookings and GU Manager.

Can I rename a reader?

No. Glow Up gives the reader its name when you pair it. GU Manager and GU Bookings have no field to change it.
